But Johnson & Johnson insists a correlation between talc powder and ovarian cancer has not been proven. In a lawsuit settled in March 2017, the jury ruled in favor of Johnson & Johnson, Reuters reports. The plaintiff was Tennessee resident Nora Daniels, who alleged that she used their baby powder for 36 years and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013.

So! Awareness is key (no thanks to Johnson & Johnson, which according to prosecutors, has known of the potential risks of talc since the ’80s yet failed to share the facts with consumers), and the moral of the story is that you should probably ditch any and all talc-based beauty products posthaste, especially if you’re putting them close to your vagina. Opt for one of these eight talc-free body powders instead—with prices ranging from less than $5 to $27, there’s something for everyone. Some of them were probably actually made for balls, but hey, it’s all the same.
Nature's Baby Organics Silky Dusting Powder is safe and gentle enough for all infants, even newborns. It is made out of nothing but USDA certified organic ingredients, including tapioca starch, and organic extracts, including matricaria flower extract, echinacea angustifolia extract, and goldenseal extract to further soothe and calm irritated skin. Simply dust it over baby’s bottom to absorb wetness and relieve chaffing.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I am pregnant with my second child, but signed up for almost all of these with my first! I am here to tell all of you, 90 % of these are completely FREE! That means NO SHIPPING! The only thing that stinks is it usually takes two months to get the freebies and by then you’ve forgotten about them, or worse you think the company has forgotten about you…until one day you receive a package full of wonderful baby items and then they just keep coming! Many of the formula brands will send multiple packages! I signed up with Enfamil and they sent a feeding package and a few weeks later they sent me THREE FULL SIZE BOTTLES of prenatal vitamins! I have never paid shipping for any of our freebies and am currently signing up for this pregnancy, because these companies DO care about expectant mothers, and THEY ARE AWESOME! Thank you again Savvy Bump for putting all of these promotions in one place so I am not scouring the internet trying to remember what sites we signed up on last time around. YOU ARE FABULOUS!
Erica, I was very happy to see that you noted that the science on a talc/ ovarian cancer risk is inconclusive at best. It might be nice to move it closer to the start of this article. It’s important, because “evidence based science” is increasingly getting kicked to the curb and that’s a bad thing (don’t vaccinate your kids because one disproved study said they were linked and now people have died from measles). That said, J &J started making cornstarch baby powder years ago, it’s what we use.
We plan on using our Farmstead Milk Soap when bathing our babe after lots of great feedback from happy parent customers (apparently it also removes poop and puke stains from fabric - good to know!), but hadn't thought much about other baby care products until recently. After some research, I decided to add baby powder and a diaper cream to my project list.
Prosecutors say Johnson & Johnson knew about the risk since the early 1980s and did not protect its customers. In fact, the first study conducted on talc powder use on female genitalia found a 92 percent increased risk for ovarian cancer with women who reported genital talc use. But still, other doctors disagree. "Several decades of medical research do not support the hypothesis that use of talcum powder causes ovarian cancer," said Dr. Hal Lawrence, chief executive officer of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

UPDATE: I recently found another great way to get free baby samples! Check out the Everyday Mom Sampling Club. When you sign-up (it’s free) you’ll receive a new box of samples every month as part of the program. You’ll get samples from companies like Gerber, Pampers, Huggies and Enfamil. I’m not sure how long this promotion is going to run so you should check it out ASAP. Sign up here.
Free diapers may be available for low-income families with young children, household with elderly and disabled, and other struggling individuals from the Diaper Bank of Northern Indiana. They partner with local social service agencies and companies like Huggies and their Every Little Bottom Program, and diapers are distributed through many of the local non-profit agencies across Indiana. South Bend Indiana. info@diaperbankni.org
Seattle area residents can contact WestSide Baby for free diapers. The non-profit organization is mostly run by volunteers from the community. They currently distribute almost 300,000 diapers to the low income, unemployed, and working poor in Washington. They also partner with numerous local organizations, including more than 100 social service agencies and charities. People can not only get free diapers from the organization, but they can also get toys, clothing, and baby equipment like cribs and car seats. Call (206) 767-1662
More than likely you have items in your pantry that are moisture absorbing. Why not use it to make your own homemade baby powder? The following foodstuff can be used as a standalone, or mixed together to create a recipe of your choosing. Some of the more exotic items may not be on hand, but are easily available at health food stores. Add essential oils for a delightful scent and aromatherapy benefits. Just be sure to keep the powder in an airtight container for freshness. The only side effect of your homemade mix will be saving dollars!
Moody Sisters Dry Shampoo is one I love, and the brand that turned me onto using dry shampoo. It’s perfect for the times when your hair doesn’t quite need to be washed again, but could look a little less greasy. The puff applicator makes it so easy to apply and blend into your scalp without any mess. It’s handmade with organic arrowroot powder, non GMO cornstarch, lemon peel powder, organic witch hazel, and aluminum free baking soda. It’s also vegan and cruelty-free.
Right along with diapers, baby wipes are something you’re guaranteed to spend a lot of money on. You’ve got to use hundreds, even thousands over the months, so the total can really add up. But here’s where it gets better: we search high and low, daily, to find the best deals and free baby wipes across the web. We find out when companies are giving away samples of these incredibly useful products and we let you know. You save not only money, but also a lot of time when we do the searching on your behalf. Check us out daily to see about free baby wipe deals!
Inspire a love for reading at a young age. All you need to do is to sign up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (see if the program is available in your area). From there, you’ll receive one free age-appropriate book each month from the time your child is born through age 5. If the Imagination Library isn’t currently in your area, you can assist in launching a program.
When you have a kid (or kids) in diapers, it can be absurd how fast those boxes get emptied. Many may be wondering if you can use food stamps to buy diapers, but unfortunately Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits can only be used to buy food items, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Services.
She got a surgical implant in India to make her eyes two different colors. Shame this website and interviewer would waste precious bandwidth to give this liar a platform to speak of her gratuitous involvement in modeling and shilling snake oil. Hey Sarah, what exactly is it about CBD oil that treats acne, hmmm? Or are you riding someone else’s good idea into the sunset again without knowing the finer details of how simple chemical reactions work?
But honestly, cloth diapers, as I mentioned earlier, have the most robust free diaper programs and they're the easiest to access. Groups like Giving Diapers, Giving Hope and The Rebecca Foundation's Cloth Diaper Closet offer free cloth diapers to those in need. Alternatively, you can get free or very cheap cloth diapers from online forums like Diaper Swappers that specialize in recycled (highly laundered) cloth diapers. Change-Diapers.com is a great resource with a link every Friday for cloth diaper giveaways they've found online, too.
Hi and welcome to my little corner of the internet! I'm Kate Sorensen and I LOVE to find deals on all things kitchen, family, home, beauty, women's & kid's clothing and more. While finding some deals here and there is fun, I also have a true passion for cooking and baking, so I'll share some of my favorite family recipes with you, as well as products that I think totally rock, too. Want to get in contact with me? Please email me at Kate@couponcravings.com. I'd love to hear from you!
Pampers Diapers and Huggies have a rewards program. They have unique one time use codes found inside the packages of diapers and some wipes. Save those and enter them on their websites (after making an account-when you sign up for pampers you will get 100 pts) When you have a certain amount of points, you can cash in for Free rewards. There are a ton of different items, and they change them too. When I reached 1,000 points I cashed out for a Dora Potty Seat for my youngest! Yay!

Talc-free powders are made with products such as corn or tapioca starch, arrowroot or rice powder, baking soda, and kaolin or bentonite clay. These all have bigger particles than talcum powder, meaning that they are less likely to be inhaled or absorbed into the body. In addition, these products are all non-carcinogenic and are unlikely to cause any kind of allergic response.
With Pampers Rewards, you need to download an app to scan in the in-pack codes. I did it and it's actually super easy. You get 100 points for signing up, 50 more when you scan in your first code. The one hitch is that while Pampers Rewards has loads of stuff you can get with relatively few points, it actually takes a lot of freaking points to earn a pack of free diapers. I did the math, and it would take 16 purchases of 166-count Pamper Swaddlers Size 4s to earn the 2100 points required to get a free pack. Now that's a lot, but also, you're going to buy the 16 packs anyway, so you may as well get one for free.
Essential Oils – I like chamomile (Roman or German) and lavender essential oil for this DIY Baby Powder. They are two of the only essential oils considered safe for use with babies and also have wonderful anti-inflammatory and soothing properties when used on skin. Note: Essential oil use is not recommended for babies under 3 months of age because their skin is not yet mature, therefore making it more sensitive to essential oils.
Lab studies: In studies done in the lab, animals are exposed to a substance (often in very large doses) to see if it causes tumors or other health problems. Researchers might also expose normal cells in a lab dish to the substance to see if it causes the types of changes that are seen in cancer cells. It’s not always clear if the results from these types of studies will apply to humans, but lab studies are a good way to find out if a substance might possibly cause cancer.
